Powerpoint gives and error when opened directly from Outlook Express

Symptoms: When opening a powerpoint file from Outlook Express an error is generated that reads:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.
Create an association in the folders options control panel."

The same file opens fine when saved to disk, and then viewed. This happens if the Open verb is missing for that ProgID. This only seems to occur when you have PowerPoint Viewer 2003 installed.

* Start Regedit.exe and navigate to:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PowerPointViewer.SlideShow.11\shell]
There will be two sub-keys by default (namely Show and Print)
* Select the sub-key named Show, and rename it to Open
* Quit Regedit.exe

Method 2: Create a new action named Open

* Start Regedit.exe and navigate to:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PowerPointViewer.SlideShow.11\shell]
* Create a new key named Open * Under Open, create a sub-key named Command * Select Command, and in the right-pane, double-click (default) * Assign the following value-data for (default)
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\PowerPoint Viewer\pptview.exe "%1"
* Quit Regedit
